The Nicoya Peninsula

Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula is considered by many to be one of the country’s last untouched gems. Once a lush rainforest, this area is now one of the last dry tropical rain forests in the world. The coastline is spotted with deserted beaches, some almost inaccessible and considered to be the most beautiful in the country. One hundred kilometers of sandy beachfront, swaying palms, clear blue waters and fantastic surf lure the adventurous to traverse rivers and dusty dirt roads to pass the day solo in paradise.

Playa San Miguel

Playa San Miguel, located on a 10km stretch of deserted sands, is a small community set off the main dirt road that twists along this coastline. It is home to less than one hundred year round residents and boasts less than a handful of local bars and restaurants offering a tasty variety of typical and continental cuisine. Centrally located between the more developed beach towns of Mal Pais and Samara, Cristal Azul is the perfect destination to immerse oneself in the pristine beauty and tranquility of this coastal region and still have access to the commercial tourist destinations a short drive away.

Things to Do – Adventures and Activities

There is plenty of light seasonal adventure, local culture and incredible tranquility to enjoy while visiting this empty stretch of beach as well as several day trips in the more developed tourist towns of Mal Pais and Samara for those who like to get out and explore. Your hosts are on site to help plan all activities and make daily suggestions. Kick back, relax and play as much, or as little, as you like – we will handle all of the details for you!

"What an amazing place! We spent a few days at the most magical place possible! Unlike many places that have been over run with tourism, here we were able to enjoy the privacy, the breathtaking views, wild life on the property and truly learning the authentic Costa Rican culture from Henner and Zene. They allowed us an impeccable experience insuring that no detail during the planning stage all the way through our journey home was overlooked. Their beach bar, LocosCocos served top notch cuisine, and offered a private beach with equipment for all of our needs. The friendly polite and caring staff and list goes on!!"
