Light adventure is yours for the taking while visiting this remote destination. Private horseback trips thru hillside trails or along the beach, hikes to hidden waterfalls, and sport fishing excursions in and off shore are all available in the immediate area. Kayaks and bikes are available to rent if you want to go solo and there is a reputable outdoor butterfly farm in the neighboring town, one of only two in Costa Rica. If you want to take a break and journey out, there are several day trips that allow for shopping and impressive sightseeing in the more commercial tourist towns of Mal Pais and Samara where guests can also find aerial tram and snorkeling.
A beach lover’s dream, the 10Km stretch of ocean is safe for swimmers of all levels, and in certain areas provides challenging surf for the more experienced. We have boogey boards, umbrellas & coolers for clients who wish to make a day of playing in the surf and sand and you can rent surfboards at a local beach bar that also offers surf lessons.
Often deserted with never more than a few people in sight the beach at Cristal Azul is the perfect place to enjoy a quiet picnic in the shade of a palm tree. If playing in the waves is not for you, retreat to the sanctuary of the estuary and take a dip in calm cool waters. Enjoy a long walk shell seeking or simply getting lost in the unspoiled beauty that surrounds you.
Visit during the months of June thru December and you can witness sea turtles nesting at night and be a part of a hatchling release with local volunteers, an experience not soon forgotten.
